Addresses Delivered to the Students of the Royal Academy by Frederic Leighton, first published in 1897, has just been reprinted by Kessinger Publishing, LLC. Mims Studios recommends this as one of the best books ever published on art education, and it can now be purchased through amazon.com, or read online at Google books.

The republishing of this classic book is good news to those of us who cherish the Golden Age of Art Education.
Fortunately, I have in my personal library, a hardcover second edition copy (1897 printing), in very good condition, of Leighton’s Addresses to the Students of the Royal Academy. This is the same edition as the one available by Google Books online. Jeffrey Mims introduced me to this book during a summer residency at the Mims Studios in 2003. Leighton’s observations about the influence of geography on art and culture are particularly insightful.
